In an exciting new venture, this society is joining forces with our counterparts in Rushden and Irthlingborough to carry out a fascinating research project. Under the direction of Jon - Paul Carr we are aiming to put together a display and/or book about the place where our three parishes meet.

Roman period settlement and venue for Bank holiday fun, site of paint factory, sewage farm and of the world famous treacle mines, Ditchford presents us with many significant questions, not least of which is where, precisely, it lies.

We are hoping to form a number of working parties to study particular subjects and would welcome any help or information that people can offer. We are particularly interested in the following topics and would ask you to let us know firstly if you have any information about them and secondly if you would he willing to lend a hand as part of a small working group on a particular subject.

The River :- It's names, locks and navigation. The bridge that stood on the river that boats could pass beneath.

Roman Relics :- Type of Settlement

Leisure and Pleasure :- Camping and holidays at Ditchford, the Stone Cross ale house, wild flowers and fishing. Swimming. Boating.

Roads :- The toll and turnpike road along the course of the A6.
|
|
Railways :- The Peterborough and Northampton Railway, the station and the station house.
|
|
Farms and Farmland :- Southview Farm, Stonecross Farm, Feefos Land, the Tithe Barn.

|
Oddities :- The treacle mines and the size of the population.
|
|
Industry :- The water and the steam mill, the paint factory and then Chettles. The sewage farm and mineral extraction.
