The children were at the school from the age of 7 to 15 years old.
In 1958 Wollaston School was opened, taking children from 11 to 15 years old. The Irchester children were then bused to Wollaston. Many people thought that the school should have been built at Irchester not Wollaston, as the majority of children attending the school were from Irchester. Wollaston school was also built next to Scot Bader chemical factory which didn’t go down very well with the people from Irchester.
To this day Wollaston Schools takes the majority from Irchester.
