White House Farm High St. 2001

White House Farm High St. 2001

Whitehouse Farm is a Grade II listed building. Parts of the building date from the 1600s. The building now looks very much like it would have looked in late Victorian times. Originally it was a farmhouse and dairy. It was farmed in the 19th century by the Spencer/Reader family. In the 20th century Mr. Alfred Sharp followed by Mr. Ernest Bradshaw farmed. In the late 1930s Mr. Fred Dunmore, a local butcher, purchased the farm. He continued to operate the farmland whilst he rented the house to Mr. William Brian Alexander who operated a dairy business. He continued to do this until the early 1970s. The farmhouse was purchased by K.G. Lawrence and was purchased in December 1999 by Mr. Tom Carpenter who is extensively and sympathetically restoring the building. This includes placing three-and-a-half-miles of oak lathe back into the building and finding the original Victorian paints which would have adorned the walls. It is hoped the building will be finished by the summer of 2002.
